About DutyChecker
DutyChecker answers one question: what will this international purchase actually cost me at the door? Not just the tariff — the whole stack: customs duty, CBP's Merchandise Processing Fee, and the brokerage fee your carrier charges to clear the parcel.
Why we built this
When the $800 de minimis exemption was suspended in 2025, millions of US shoppers suddenly started receiving customs bills on ordinary purchases — a £60 sweater from the UK, a ¥12,000 figure from Japan. Existing duty calculators were built for freight forwarders: they ask for HS codes most shoppers have never heard of, and they ignore the carrier brokerage fees that often exceed the duty itself.
DutyChecker speaks plain language. You pick "clothing" or "shoes"; we map it to the right HTS heading, apply the current tariff overlays, and show you the fee difference between USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL before you check out.
How we source our data
- Tariff rates — USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule, 2026 Revision 20
- Tariff overlays — Federal Register and CBP CSMS trade-remedy notices (IEEPA, Section 301)
- MPF — 19 CFR 24.23, FY2026 fee schedule
- Carrier fees — published USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL clearance fee schedules
- Exchange rates — ECB reference rates via frankfurter.app, refreshed daily
Every rate on this site carries a verification date, currently Oct 2026.
What we are not
We are not customs brokers, and this is not legal or customs advice. Estimates reflect representative HTS classifications; a customs officer's classification of your specific item controls what you actually pay.
